just got back from marfa

spent a couple of days in marfa. my in-laws have a little adobe house there located right off the town square. i like towns that are somewhat paradoxical. new york is so big that it can't support big retail outlets like walmart...in the metrapolis or metrapoli, mom and pops stores thrive.
marfa's paradox is different. it is a combination, a tight-rope walk of the present and the past. it is book stores and art galleries. it is the chinati foundation...sculptures and fashion. prada and socialites. but it is a hardware store where purchases are still filled out on a chit sheet. it is backyards with chickens and donkeys.
i found another town to be in love with. and, unlike new york, i have a permanent and free place to stay every time i go.
i'll post pictures later.
