This week

This week has been a terrible one, at least for the part of my consciousness focused on the world writ large. The Republicans have wrapped up their convention this week, convincing themselves that they are compassionate, love immigrants, and are a collective of hope and positivism -- all the while reminding their constituency and the populace that we inhabit a fearful world full of brown people who seek to do us harm.

It is a distressing moment in time, and I wish that I could be assured that the outcome will be positive. Today, at least, I am not an optimist. I'm afraid that the majority of anglo inhabitants of this country have found ample suckle at the bosom of fear and hate. In my opinion, and it will come as no surprise, I believe that teat to belong to the multi-headed beast of religion. And, as religion is an opiate like no other, those same people most deriding terroristic motivation, are actively seeking to turn our country from democracy to theocracy.

I'd never even remotely pondered the possibility of some day being locked in a prison for my political and/or religious beliefs. However, as I witness the hate and disdain spew from the so-called 'compassionate conservatives' I cannot help but to have images of world war II Germany flash across the synopsis of my brain. I fear for myself, my country, and my children. The war-mongers, fear peddlers, biggots, fascits, and zealots are in control, and they are thirsty for the blood of 'liberals'.
